What Does Jesus Look Like?

Here is a news article about the image of Jesus supposedly appearing on the cinder-block of a bathroom in a Mexican home.  http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3186245/Do-Image-Jesus-seen-bathroom-wall-Mexico-home.html

As we know, people from all over the world have said they have seen Jesus in clouds, various foodstuffs, buildings, etc.  There is one little problem with this.  Nobody knows what Jesus looked like.

The earliest painting of Jesus is from the 6th century.  This is roughly 500 years after Jesus walked the Earth!  Nobody who actually saw Him was around at that time.  Therefore, that painting and the myriad of others which have been painted since are mere reflections of the artists’ imaginations.

We do know that there was nothing special about Jesus’ appearance which separated Him from everyone else.

Isaiah 53:2  …he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.

But outside of that, the Bible gives us few hints at what Jesus actually looked like.  So nobody knows if any paintings or drawings of Him are accurate or not.

Rather than looking for the image of Jesus, people should seek to know Him.  As Paul said,

Philippians 3:8-10  Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,  9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:  10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;

He died for all of mankind, paying the price for sin.  He gives us His righteousness so that we will be accepted by the God.  We just have to receive Jesus in faith as Savior and Lord.  (John 1:12; Ephesians 2:8-9; Romans 10:9, 13)
