Marriage Equality Debate Heats Up

Here is an atheist doing exactly what he’s accusing Christians of doing—promoting misinformation, using bad logic, and ignoring basic facts.  http://www.addictinginfo.org/2015/06/15/christian-pundit-desperately-tries-to-equate-same-sex-marriage-to-polygamy-child-brides-video/  Here’s one example, he faults Cal Thomas for pointing out what I think is obvious—that changing the law regarding marriage can lead to a whole bunch of other “non-traditional” marriage rights being fought for (polygamy, adult-child marriage, etc.).  But he simply states that there are laws against polygamy and adult-child marriage and considers the debate closed.  However, he ignores the fact that there are laws in many states prohibiting homosexual marriage!  If those laws can be overturned, so can the ones governing polygamy and adult-child marriage!

Giving Thanks to the Lord

1 Chronicles 16:8  Give thanks unto the LORD, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the people.

This verse is David’s response to the return of the Ark of the Covenant.  The Ark represented the presence and power of God in Israel.

All believers can be thankful that God is present in our lives and that we have His power through the Spirit of God Who is resident in our lives.

1 Corinthians 3:16  Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

We have many things to be thankful for.  One of the greatest is that God is with us.

Serve Christ with Humility

Philippians 3:4-7  Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more:  5 Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee;  6 Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless.  7 But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.

More than anyone else, the Apostle Paul could have boasted of himself.  He was a “Hebrew of Hebrews” with Pharisaical training and a zeal for the law.  In fact, he was “blameless” concerning the law.  In addition, he was intellectually sharp and and well-respected.  By his own admission, he could have had “confidence in the flesh”.  But he didn’t. Christians and the Call of God

…ye also the called of Jesus Christ (Romans 1:6)

Paul wrote this to the Roman believers and it emphasizes an important part of the Christian’s role.  Every believer in Jesus Christ is called by Him.  The Greek word translated “called” basically means “invited”, but within the context is better understood as “divinely appointed”. Continue reading

What To Do When You Are Afraid

Psalm 34:4  I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.

Fear is a part of life.  Some fears are minimal, but others can be debilitating.  Regardless, when fear comes upon us, we should seek the Lord.  The Hebrew word translated “sought” has a range of meanings including “resort to”, “enquire of”, “consult with”, and “seek with care”.  These meanings convey dependence upon God rather than ourselves.  It is saying, “I need help.” Continue reading
