Should We Change the Lord’s Prayer?

Many news outlets have reported that Pope Francis wants to change the translation of the Lord’s Prayer.  Specifically, he objects that “lead us not into temptation” (Matt. 6:13) makes it seem like the Lord leads us to sin.

With all due respect, I strongly believe he is wrong.  The pope said, “That is not a good translation.”  Actually, it is an excellent translation as you’ll see in this article.  Continue reading

In the Beginning

I’m starting a Bible study on the book of Genesis, so I’m going to post some thoughts as I make my way through the book.

Genesis 1:1  In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

First, there was a beginning to everything.  Scientists are still debating this, although it appears that most are leaning toward there being a beginning.  Regardless, the One who was there provides a detailed record of what happened.  There was a beginning. Continue reading

Marriage Equality Debate Heats Up

Here is an atheist doing exactly what he’s accusing Christians of doing—promoting misinformation, using bad logic, and ignoring basic facts.  http://www.addictinginfo.org/2015/06/15/christian-pundit-desperately-tries-to-equate-same-sex-marriage-to-polygamy-child-brides-video/  Here’s one example, he faults Cal Thomas for pointing out what I think is obvious—that changing the law regarding marriage can lead to a whole bunch of other “non-traditional” marriage rights being fought for (polygamy, adult-child marriage, etc.).  But he simply states that there are laws against polygamy and adult-child marriage and considers the debate closed.  However, he ignores the fact that there are laws in many states prohibiting homosexual marriage!  If those laws can be overturned, so can the ones governing polygamy and adult-child marriage!

Why Memorize Scripture?

Scripture memory should be a part of every Christian’s regular disciplines, but it seems to have fallen out of practice with far too many believers.  There are many good reasons to memorize verses from the Bible.  Here are a few.

  • It makes you less likely to sin.  “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” (Psalm 119:11)  See also the example of Jesus in Matthew 4:1-11. Continue reading

Do Only Christians Go To Heaven?

This is a loaded question.  The answer can start a firestorm of outrage over one’s intolerance and close-mindedness.  Let me say that I am not intolerant or close-minded, at least not in the traditional sense.  However, I do believe in absolute truth.  Also, I do believe in logic.  Finally, I believe that the Bible is true and, as a result, that Jesus Christ is the perfect incarnation of God.  That said, let’s answer the question, “Do only Christians go to heaven?”.
